SOCIAL NETWORKING:The Insurance Industry and Facebook: An Overview
We just completed a presentation on Social Media focusing on the insurance business, specifically to a group of health insurance agents from Central Jersey Association of Health Underwriters. The event gave PPCD owner Paul Pinkman and social media consultant Barbara Kerr an opportunity to discuss how the insurance business is and is not using Facebook and other social media sites to their fullest advantage.
We focus on the discussion from a high level, capturing the information that people specific to this service business ought to know to make Facebook, Twitter and some of the others work for them.
If you’re interested, you can download the presentation and get an idea of some of the high lights of the talk. The talk was attended by roughly 35 local business executives and owners. The second part of the discussion was handled by Bob Springer of Business Tech Team. He spoke about the importance of network security and some of the security issues around the use of Facebook and other social media tools.
You already have a Facebook page, right? So what’s the big deal? You got online, got the page set up and connected with your friends and coworkers. And then what? Nothing that’s helping your business, right? The key to successful social media use for business is the same key to it in person. It’s all about who you know and whether they see you as adding value to their business.
Everyone is communicating all the time, all over the place, in a million different ways and social media has ramped that up in a big way. With the splintering of companies all over the country and the world and the rapid change in the way business is done, you need to stay on top of a network of people that’s more than just the folks in your building or on your immediate list. Yes, they’re important. Sometimes very important. But what happens when Joe or Suzanne, your trusted connection at XYZ Company loses their job? Or worse, the company gets sold or closes its doors?
Truth is, the most important thing you can be doing for your business today is building a network online and social media is the way to do that. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and the many others provide endless opportunities to connect your business, and you, with people you never met or people you’ve forgotten about. You get to establish some recognition for yourself in your field, connect with people easily and for free, build relationships by keeping in touch, stay on top of competition and work to establishing a referral business.
Paul Pinkman Creative Design can help you get up to speed on these tools. The hard part is getting started. Once you get going, keeping it going gets a lot easier. And yes, it does take time. What business and networking event of any consequence doesn’t? So when you’re ready to take the next step into this field of moving targets, let us give you the boost and the understanding you need.
